The Poet

Posted on June 15, 2021January 16, 2022 by Shelby Tone

Hello, world.

The vision of this website is still in-progress. Expect a variety of posts aimed at life, my Christian walk, philosophical and theological questions, lessons learned, and “mere” observations of joy and delight in the world.

I have embraced my identity, finally, as a happy English major, artist, and poet. By “poet,” I echo Ralph Waldo Emerson’s views in his essay, “The Poet.” In there, Emerson writes that, “the poet is the sayer, the namer, and represents beauty.” The poet both sees and names, or interprets, his surroundings to others, in order to express more fully the realities of Nature and life.

I will attempt to do as such.

An awe-inspiring sunrise that made me stop and wonder one morning. Emerson and the other transcendentalist writers, like Henry David Thoreau, may have been right about the benefits of heading out into nature.
