Spring of Our Discontent

Spring of Our Discontent:

Written in spring 2020

Chaos reigns among shreds of normal days, highlighting the time
Lost to the wind--of friends gone and hopes now fallen;
One day at a time, the soul dares to grasp—
Just one more stage of grief, of pains—one moment more.
So reason claims.

All could be a dream, with bare memories
Left, full of such love that heart both swells and breaks—
And wonders how life can change, how joy may rise
Anew, when hope falters—
Day turns to night, night to day, in time blurred.

Trapped, the soul paces, and wonders why
Authority reigns so strong that freedom has passed beyond, away?
And asks where lauded virtue's gone—
And questions what a life is worth?
Seems nothing, to so many.

Music from the gilded past invites a sigh of peace,
Yet dredges up, with cutting edge, remembrance
Of the things not said—the paths left fresh, untrodden;
If only eye had seen, or spirit felt, or heart beheld—
Before the cheer grew cold.

Cracks crumble from the precipice, the pit
Where what was lost is thrown—
Then sprouts the newest green, then start to finally sing
The birds of hope, in concert with beloved spring
And all Light and life are known.

“A Penny for Your Thoughts”

“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”
